Kivi-Pekka - Save time, money and health

Kivi-Pekka is manufactured in Rantasalmi, right among the stoniest fields found in Finland. The granite-rich rock material of our fields creates the perfect conditions for product development and testing our machines. Kivi-Pekka is a stone collector used to collect the stones from the field before or after sowing, as well as to remove stones and wood from new fields.

By using a Kivi-Pekka stone picker, you will be able to avoid causing wear and tear on your other farming machinery. The Kivi-Pekka stone picker will also help increase your crop yield, as there will be no stones to restrict the cutting height when harvesting, prevent harvesting or damage your machinery.

Stones are traditionally removed from fields by collecting them by hand. This is not only time-consuming but, at worst, puts people’s health at risk due to poor working postures. To make matters worse, the end result is never as good as that attained by mechanical removal. Thoroughly cleared fields yield a better harvest, prevent damage to other farming machinery and lower repair costs.

The machine is customised and manufactured according to the customer’s specifications. The KIVI-PEKKA is suitable for use by small co-operative groups and contractors, thanks to its durability and speed. In addition to field work, the KIVI-PEKKA can also be used for land clearance, road renovation and foundation work, golf courses and landscaping.

Durability

The durability of the machine has been achieved as a result of progressive product development over the past 35 years. The right materials and the best components keep running costs low.

The rotors are made of special steel and the spike goes through the pipe in the structure. The lattice structure formed by the spikes makes the pipe really rigid. The machine can be driven for more than a thousand hours before the spikes need to be extended. The tines of the rotors are welded with a robot to maximize quality.

Four working widths available

KIVI-PEKKA stone pickers offer four working widths: 4m(13′), 5m(17′), 6m(20′) and 7m(23′)The machine width is chosen according to its planned usage rate and the stone quantity of the soil, thus making it the right machine for the right application. The Kivi-Pekka models 5, 6 and 7 each have a wider lifting drum, which operates more efficiently with a higher volume of stones.

Durability

Kivi-Pekka is equipped with strengthened drive belts, and power is transmitted to the lifting drum via straight drive belts, which reduces the power requirement. The belts do double duty as an overload protection mechanism, while also absorbing the shock from the stones that come into contact with the machine, thus preventing it from affecting the tractor through the transmission. The belts are highly resistant to wear and tear and require very little maintenance. Because the drivetrain contains no expensive parts that need replacing, the operating costs of the Kivi-Pekka stone picker are kept low.

Soil collecting

Soil collection allows the topsoil to end up back in the field. Cleaned rocks can be used in construction or road building, for instance.

Kivi-Pekka separates the soil over three stages:

  1. Stone enters the machine over the sieve located under the lifting drum.
  2. Stone is carried to the tank, and the soil in the sieve structure is released back to the field.
  3. Any left-over soil slides into a separate container located behind the back wall of the stone tank, and gets released at the tipping stage.

In addition to this, the stones are cleaned, thus making it possible to use them as material for construction or roads. The stones are sieved during the tipping stage. Soil is dropped into the soil container and, from there, back into the field. The standard mesh size is 40 mm. Other mesh sizes (30 mm, 35 mm and 50 mm) are also available as optional accessories. The stone tank’s back wall and bottom boast a robust mesh design. The top of the stone tank is made of strong Hardox sheet metal.

Sieve

The welded sieve is made of special-alloy steel and is available with different spacings. The tines run between the sieve bars the entire length, thus keeping the sieve clean and preventing jamming of rocks.

Hydraulic lift

The lifting action is achieved with a hydraulic cylinder, which raises the rakes simultaneously. Mechanical locks secure them into the top position. The operator is able to position the picker in working or transport position from the cab.

Strong tines and auxiliary springs

All tine sizes give way sideways to prevent blockages. No backwards rotation is hence required. The 12×45 tines are particularly durable and contribute to extended maintenance intervals. All tines are fitted with auxiliary springs and suspended with rubber buffers.

Optional accessories

The Kivi-Pekka Stone Picker can be equipped with various optional accessories to make your work easier.

Rotation quard

When operated in dusty conditions, the rotation guard monitors the operation of the rotors, the lifting drum and the main drive PTO shaft with sensors. An auditory alarm in the tractor cab alerts the operator if any of these stops turning.

Flex Drum lifts heavy stones

The lifting drum’s power transmission is mounted along the drum frame, allowing the frame and the entire lifting drum to yield upwards, which makes it possible to lift stones 50 cm in diameter. Because of the Flex Drum’s hydraulic pressure accumulator, the drum passes over any large stones it comes into contact with. In addition, the drum can be raised into the top position with the hydraulic system, allowing any jammed stones to be released.

The Flex Drum’s suspension system protects the sieve and tines against the contact with stones, thereby extending their service life. Thanks to the Flex Drum, no backwards rotation is needed, as the drum can be lifted up and a large stone picked up without stopping.

Extra strong tines and auxiliary springs (Flex Drum)

All tine sizes give way sideways to prevent blockages. No backwards rotation is hence required. The 13×50 Flex Drum tine is particularly durable and contributes to extended maintenance intervals. All tines are fitted with auxiliary springs and suspended with rubber buffers.
